Speech delivered in Pirna by Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, on Memorial Day for Deportation of Ethnic Germans from Hungary

Eighty years ago, German men, women, and families were expelled from Hungary almost overnight. In three waves, more than 200,000 souls were torn from their homes and from our common homeland. They were my compatriots. They were respected citizens of our country.

Ladies and Gentlemen, 

I greet you today at a place of profound sorrow. This land bears witness to unimaginable suffering. Here, the human dignity of my fellow citizens was utterly disregarded. With deep sorrow in my heart, I remember the thousands of Hungarian Jews, and all those fellow human beings, who fell victim to the inhuman Nazi dictatorship in this region. The lives that were destroyed cannot be forgotten, nor can they ever be replaced.

Announcement from Sándor Palace

Sándor Palace issues the following statement in connection with Government Decree 15/2026. (II. 3.) on municipal solidarity contributions due to the spread of misinformation regarding the constitutional role of the President of Hungary:
A statement widely circulated in the press claimed to offer a professional recommendation, arguing that “in the matter of the government decree, the President of Hungary, as guardian of the constitutional order, should have acted and referred the issue to the Constitutional Court”.

President of Hungary Dr. Tamás Sulyok will attend the opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Milan.

Accompanied by First Lady Zsuzsanna Nagy, the Head of State will attend the opening ceremony at the invitation of the Olympic Movement, watch sporting events of Hungarian interest, visit the Olympic Village in Milan, and meet with the Hungarian team's competitors and supporting staff.

Fifteen Hungarian athletes represent our country at the Milan–Cortina Games.

Statement from Sándor Palace

The President of Hungary hosted Chile's President-Elect, elected in December, at Sándor Palace.

During the meeting, Dr. Tamás Sulyok praised the 101 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He emphasised that despite the geographical distance between Hungary and Chile, the two countries are connected by fundamental values rooted in their shared Christian heritage, such as the protection of family and its central role in society.

The President of Hungary at the 130th Anniversary Gala of the Hungarian Olympic Committee

Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, greeted the Olympic community celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Hungarian Olympic Committee at the Museum of Fine Arts.

In his speech, the Head of State stated: "For us Hungarians, sport is a real community-building force, as knowledge, enthusiasm and passion are passed on from generation to generation”.

According to the President, the founding of the Hungarian Olympic Committee 130 years ago created a national resource that has given and continues to give Hungarian sport a strong foundation and sense of confidence.

According to President Sulyok, the Szeged Cathedral and Dome Square represent a special value in the life and thought of the nation

At the unveiling of the stele marking the declaration of the Szeged Cathedral and the square as a national memorial on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Kuno Klebelsberg, Dr. Tamás Sulyok stated that "The sky-high Cathedral and the huge square have grown dear to our hearts, the hearts of the people of Szeged." The square embodies sacredness, science and culture all at once. The height of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Hungary commands respect.

Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, visited the Laser Research Centre in Szeged

Dr. Tamás Sulyok, Head of State, speaking at an event organised by the Research Students Movement, of which he is the patron, told young people visiting the ELI-ALPS Laser Research Centre in Szeged that "the Szeged Research Centre is the driving force behind the development of laser technology".

"The future is born here," emphasised Dr. Tamás Sulyok, adding that Hungary is proud that ELI-ALPS operates in our country and that scientists from many countries around the world come here to conduct their research projects.

Appointments of State Secretaries and Permanent Secretaries 

President of Hungary Katalin Novák handed out new state secretary and permanent secretary appointments.

Péter Ágh, Dr. Balázs Zoltán Hankó, Dr. Sándor Czomba and Gergely Fábián will work as state secretaries, while Dr. Anikó Túri and Dr. Gábor Czepek will work as permanent secretaries in the future.

We are the heirs of the regime changers

Today's generation of politicians are the heirs of those who changed the regime, President Katalin Novák stressed at the event of the „Conversations in the Sándor Palace” on Monday, adding that "we respect and love the great generation that came before us".

Speaking at the launch of the book "Regime Change from Within " authored by former Interior Minister Imre Kónya, the Head of State said that today's politicians have a choice, and they must choose responsibly. They can squander, preserve or enrich this heritage.

We stand for peace, we don't want war - Iraq - Camp Singara

We Hungarians are pro-peace, we don't want war, we want peace in our homes, in our country and on our borders, President Katalin Novák stressed on Saturday at the Erbil military camp in Iraq, where she met with Hungarian troops.

We Hungarians are a nation of doers - Iraq - Meltho International School

"We Hungarians are a nation of doers ", said President Katalin Novák at the inauguration of the Meltho International School in Erbil, in the centre of Iraq's Kurdistan Region. The school was established with Hungarian support.

She added: This is also shown by the fact that "we are here to support you and your communities".
On the last day of her visit to Iraq, the President of Hungary opened the international school established with the support of the Hungary Helps Initiative at a ceremony with Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region, Masrour Barzani.

President of Hungary Katalin Novák - the first Hungarian President to visit the Middle Eastern country -also met Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid on Friday.

Katalin Novák visits Iraq

Katalin Novák is the first Hungarian President to visit Iraq, the Sándor Palace told the Hungarian News Agency MTI on Thursday.

Katalin Novák will be in the Middle Eastern country from Thursday to Saturday, where she will meet with the Hungarian troops stationed there.

The President is also scheduled to visit humanitarian projects implemented through the Hungary Helps Initiative.

Our future depends on whether we stand by the family

Supporting the birth of desired children has become a fundamental principle of Hungarian family policy, said President of Hungary Katalin Novák at the closing event of the Mária Kopp Memorial Year in Budapest on Friday.

Katalin Novák said that Mária Kopp was perhaps the first to point out that the state - but not only the state - has a job to do in countries where fewer children are born than what young people dream of.

Katalin Novák appointed Csaba Lantos as Minister for Energy

On the proposal by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, President of Hungary Katalin Novák appointed Csaba Lantos as Minister for Energy on Wednesday. The government decided to set up an independent Ministry for Energy in November. The new ministry is in charge of the integrated control of Hungary’s energy policy.
