Dr. Tamás Sulyok - Biography

Married, father of two children.


He graduated from the Faculty of Law and Political Science of József Attila University of Szeged in 1980.


He worked as a legal counsel from 1982 to 1991 and as a lawyer from 1991 until his election as a constitutional judge. He was Honorary Consul of the Republic of Austria from 2000 to 2014. Between 2005 and 2020, he was a visiting lecturer in Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Szeged. He earned his PhD in 2013, his research topic was the constitutional status of the legal profession.


The National Assembly elected him as a member of the Constitutional Court in September 2014. From 1 April 2015, he served as Vice President of the Constitutional Court, and from 22 April 2016, he fulfilled the responsibilities of President as Vice President. He served as President of the Constitutional Court from 22 November 2016 to 4 March 2024.


On 26 February 2024, the National Assembly elected him the President of Hungary. He took office on 5 March 2024.


President Sulyok has full negotiation proficiency in German and conversational proficiency in English.
