With great respect and affection, I welcome the representatives of the Hungarian associations in Switzerland! I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet you and to learn more about your communities.

We Hungarians have become accustomed to the fact that national togetherness does not necessarily mean geographical togetherness, since due to our turbulent history, we find Hungarians and strong and vibrant Hungarian communities in many parts of the world.

President Tamás Sulyok pays a working visit to Japan, followed by an official visit to Vietnam.

On 19 May 2025, Head of State Tamás Sulyok will pay a working visit to Japan. The Hungarian Head of State will be received in audience by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, 126th Emperor of Japan. The President will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and hold talks with the heads of Japanese companies and investor groups present in Hungary.

President Tamás Sulyok personally congratulated Pope Leo XIV on the beginning of his Petrine ministry.

Following today's inaugural Mass at the Vatican, which the Head of State attended as head of the Hungarian delegation, the Holy Father greeted the heads of the delegations, including the President of Hungary, with a handshake.

Tamás Sulyok exchanged a few words with Pope Leo. The President asked the Holy Father to visit Hungary as soon as possible.

Heads of State attend the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV.

President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok leads the official Hungarian delegation to Rome to attend the Holy Mass marking the beginning of Pope Leo XIV's Petrine ministry. The Holy Mass will take place in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican on 18 May 2025 at 10 am.

The Hungarian delegation, led by Tamás Sulyok, will also include Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, representing the government.

The votes express the democratic will of the electorate

On 9 June 2024, on the day of the elections to the European Parliament, local governments and of national minority advocates, Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary and his wife cast their votes in Szeged. After the vote, the President said that since there have been free elections in Hungary, his wife Zsuzsa and he have always exercised their right to vote, and again urged his fellow citizens to vote as well.

That I'm here for the first time, I experienced that it is, let's say, a constructive chaos, what we experience here, and also what the traffic is concerned, it's very difficult to get from one place to the other, but I have to assure you that the Swiss trains are on time. I took the train and it worked perfectly.

Meeting with the Director of EPLO

Tamás Sulyok welcomed Spyridon Flogaitis, the Director of the European Public Law Organisation (EPLO), at Sándor Palace. EPLO has disseminated knowledge about Public Law and promoted jurisprudence in Europe since 2007. The Head of State emphasized that he would like to continue strengthening the scientific and professional relations between Hungary and EPLO.

Tamás Sulyok met with members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Hungary

Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, welcomed the members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Hungary to an official reception in Budapest for the first time.

In his speech, the President stressed that Hungary has been calling for a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine from the very beginning, as a just and sustainable peace is in the common interest of all of us.

Presentation of ambassadorial letters of credence at Sándor Palace

Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, sent greetings to the President of the European Council

The President of Hungary sent a letter of greetings to Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, on the 20th anniversary of Hungary’s accession to the European Union.

According to the Head of State, the referendum on Hungary’s accession gave the authorisation for Hungary to become a member of the European Union as a sovereign country 20 years ago.

Tamás Sulyok emphasized that preserving the values of our EU membership is a common interest and a common task.

Tamás Sulyok received the Speaker of Oman’s Shura Council

The President of Hungary received Sheikh Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, the Speaker of Oman’s Shura Council, i.e. the Lower House of the Omani Parliament, at Sándor Palace.

Tamás Sulyok commended the stabilising role played by the Sultanate of Oman in the Middle East, and underlined that a common goal for the two countries is to promote international peace and security.

The Head of State cheered for Hungarian athletes at the European Rowing Championships in Szeged

President of Hungary Dr. Tamás Sulyok visited the European Rowing Championships held in Szeged. The event is of historic significance for the sport, as the best rowing athletes of Europe have not competed in a continental race on Hungarian soil for 54 years, and Hungary has never been the site of a qualification race before.
