With distinguished respect and great esteem, I welcome the laureates and honourees!

Inaugural address by Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary

Presidents Schmitt and Áder, 

Honourable Prime Minister, 

Honourable Speaker of the House, 

Ladies and Gentlemen, Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin and all around the world,
I stand before you and welcome you as the seventh President of the free Hungary, which dismantled the communist dictatorship. First and foremost, I would like to thank all those who have supported me and continue to do so.

Dear Members of the Parliament, 
Dear Invited Guests,

As President of the Constitutional Court, I have been nominated for the office of Head of State, and I thank everyone involved. The fact that I stand here before this House as President-elect of Hungary, but even as President of the Constitutional Court, somewhat defines, or if you like, limits my options.

Every year, the Three Seas Initiative (TSI) summit and business forum is organised with the participation of 13 countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia and Bulgaria), situated between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.

Tamás Sulyok had a telephone conversation today with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

The President of the State of Israel congratulated Tamás Sulyok on his election as President of Hungary. The two Heads of State reviewed the most important bilateral and international political issues. During the exchange of views, the Hungarian President stressed that Hungary is a close ally and best friend of Israel as well as its strategic partner in Europe.

Today, President Tamás Sulyok, in fulfilment of his constitutional duty, called the election of the members of the European Parliament in Hungary and the general election of local municipality representatives and mayors. 

The first simultaneous elections will take place on 09 June 2024.

Tamás Sulyok: deepening the dialogue between Hungary and Poland is a key priority

Maintaining and deepening the dialogue between Poland and Hungary is of the utmost importance, said President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok at a joint press conference with President Andrzej Duda in Stary Sacz, southern Poland, on Friday.

The Hungarian President arrived in Poland on a working visit to mark the Day of Polish-Hungarian Friendship (23 March).

Open days at Sándor Palace

A year ago, at my inauguration, I promised to „open doors” for Hungary in the international arena, as well as at home, between Hungarians. 

This is also why on the anniversary, Sándor Palace welcomed those interested with open gates. Thus, thousands have seen the palace this year as well.

I thank all those who came to visit, young and old, residents of the countryside and the capital, supporters of the opposition or the government, people from all walks of life.

This day proved again that Sándor Palace is open to all.
 

My presidency is about the Hungarian people

My presidency is about the Hungarian people, and I would like them to feel that I am working as the President of all Hungarians. My next four years will also be about them. - said President of Hungary Katalin Novák on the occasion of the first anniversary of her inauguration at Sándor Palace in Budapest on Wednesday.

I found my meetings in Békés very rewarding, and I trust that I was not the only one who felt this way - said Katalin Novák, President of Hungary, in an interview with our newspaper - the Békés Megyei Hírlap - about the three days she spent in our county at the end of January. During our conversation, we discussed how to motivate young people to settle in the region, spoke about the war in Ukraine and this year's elections, and why she declared 2024 the Year of Getting Active.

Bloody reality has come knocking - Index.hu interview with Katalin Novák

"It would be important to think about issues that are crucial for our future: about families, the future of children, or education, ina way free from the excesses of political campaigns" the President of Hungary told Index. In an interview at the Blue Salon of Sándor Palace, Katalin Novák said she was curious to see what the next step would be in the area of home ownership. The Head of State also spoke about what she experienced during her visit to Kyiv, the promises she received from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and what Pope Francis asked her to do.

President of Hungary Katalin Novák met with Pope Francis at the Vatican in Rome, where the Pope received the Hungarian Head of State in a private audience. 

Katalin Novák met with the Head of the Catholic Church to discuss three important issues. 

The primary theme was war. 

They agreed to work together to achieve an early and long-term sustainable peace. They also agreed on what they can do together to ensure that children who have been abducted from Ukraine can return home as soon as possible. 

Katalin Novák visited a kindergarten and school rebuilt with Hungarian support

During her visit to Ukraine, President of Hungary Katalin Novák visited the village of Zahalci, where a kindergarten and school building, which suffered significant damage in the fighting, is being rebuilt with the support of the Hungarian government and the coordination of the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Organisation. 

One-on-one meeting with President Zelensky

Following the third summit of the Crimea Platform, Katalin Novák and President Zelensky agreed in their private meeting: 
1. To establish a direct presidential communication channel, as befits neighbours; 
2. To start preparing a new document on relations between the two countries.
3. Hungary will be involved in the negotiations on the peace formula initiated by the Ukrainian President. 
Cooperation on children affected by the war will be given priority. 

Katalin Novák at the Third Summit of the Crimea Platform in Kyiv

On the second day of her visit to Ukraine, President Katalin Novák attended the third summit of the Crimea Platform in Kyiv at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where she also made a contribution. 

The President of Hungary said: war cannot take away the future of children! 
At the international forum, where she was present together with the Ukrainian, Portuguese and Lithuanian presidents, among others, the Hungarian Head of State again called for peace.

Feast of King St Stephen in Transcarpathia

President of Hungary Katalin Novák commemorated King St Stephen with the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia in the Roman Catholic Church of Beregszász. At the ecumenical worship service, the bread personally baked by the Head of State on the occasion of the national holiday was blessed and consecrated.

Protecting families and Christian roots

Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of all Africa Tawadros II paid an apostolic visit to President of Hungary Katalin Novák at Sándor Palace.
During their talks, both parties agreed that their goals are common: the protection of Christian roots and the family.  
On St Stephen’s Day, Tawadros II participated in the Procession of the Holy Right Hand and also watched the celebratory fireworks display.


 

Diplomatic talks with the Emir of Qatar

President of Hungary Katalin Novák received the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Sándor Palace.
The discussions focused on cooperation opportunities between Hungary and Qatar.
The Emir of Qatar invited the President of Hungary on a reciprocal visit, who accepted the invitation.
