Celebrating Hungarians from the Carpathian Basin and around the world!
It is with joy and respect that I welcome the service members who have just taken their oath, as well as their families. With joy, because young people ready and well-prepared to serve and defend their homeland once again fill the nation’s main square. With respect, because the oath they have taken—and which I hope they will keep throughout their lives—demands of them the noblest service and sacrifice.

With great respect and affection, I welcome the community gathered for the festive opening of the Hungarian Cultural Days of Kolozsvár! I would love to greet each person individually who participates in any of the events of this wonderful week-long programme, but unfortunately, this is not possible. Even this impressive venue is much, much too small to accommodate the thousands who will be seeking intellectual and cultural nourishment or refreshing experiences here.

Head of State nominates new ombudsman
Due to the election of Dr. Ákos Kozma as a constitutional judge, the position of Commissioner for Fundamental Rights became vacant. In accordance with his powers under the Fundamental Law, President Tamás Sulyok, after consulting with representatives of the legal profession, nominated Dr. Imre Juhász, former constitutional judge, retired president of the Constitutional Court, and lecturer at the Department of Civil Procedure Law at ELTE University, as the candidate for the position of Commissioner for Fundamental Rights.
President Tamás Sulyok travels to Slovakia on an official visit
On Thursday, 3 July 2025, President Tamás Sulyok will travel to Slovakia on an official visit.
The Hungarian head of state will be received in Pozsony by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. Following a private meeting between the two heads of state and talks between the delegations, the two presidents will make a press statement.
The Hungarian President will meet with Richard Raši, Speaker of the Slovak National Council, and then hold talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

President Tamás Sulyok pays a working visit to Japan, followed by an official visit to Vietnam.
On 19 May 2025, Head of State Tamás Sulyok will pay a working visit to Japan. The Hungarian Head of State will be received in audience by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, 126th Emperor of Japan. The President will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and hold talks with the heads of Japanese companies and investor groups present in Hungary.

The votes express the democratic will of the electorate
On 9 June 2024, on the day of the elections to the European Parliament, local governments and of national minority advocates, Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary and his wife cast their votes in Szeged. After the vote, the President said that since there have been free elections in Hungary, his wife Zsuzsa and he have always exercised their right to vote, and again urged his fellow citizens to vote as well.

As a lawyer by profession and, by virtue of my office, as Head of State, I greet you all with love and respect on Courts Day. A special day launched to show our appreciation for the work of the courts, judges and court officials.
Being a judge and running the court system well is a challenge. It requires competence and responsibility, wisdom and expertise, empathy and precision.

Appointment to the position of State Secretary
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, the President of Hungary, on the proposal of the Prime Minister, appointed Dr. Veronika Varga-Bajusz as State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, effective 1 July 2024.
Following the ceremony at Sándor Palace, the Head of State wished the appointee good endeavours and success.
Presidential visit to Vienna
Following his inauguration to the office, Dr. Tamás Sulyok's second official visit abroad - after the Vatican - led to Vienna, where he was received by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.
Hungarians in Brussels
President Tamás Sulyok visited Brussels to celebrate Hungary’s assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Head of State attended a Hungarian-language Holy Mass, which was conducted by Bishop Gábor Mohos, and besides the sermons, universal prayers were said for Hungary and Europe.
The President of Hungary welcomed the Hungarian community in Belgium to the Liszt Institute in Brussels, where he stated that "Hungarians are everywhere in the world, and there is perhaps no part of the world where you cannot hear the Hungarian language."

The cornerstone for shared reflection is the future of Europe
President Dr. Tamás Sulyok welcomed a delegation of Business Europe, an alliance of European corporations, to Sándor Palace.
During the meeting, the Hungarian Head of State pointed out that one of the key priorities of the Hungarian Presidency is to strengthen the global competitiveness of the continent.
Dr. Tamás Sulyok directed attention to the fact that efforts to strengthen competitiveness must go hand in hand with efforts towards sustainability, as the interests of future generations must also be taken into consideration.
Medical professionalism and a love of community – Visiting the Paediatric Clinic in Szeged
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, the President of Hungary, and his wife Zsuzsanna Nagy, visited the Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Department of the SZAKK Clinical Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health Care of the University of Szeged.
The Head of State and his wife were received by Professor Dr. László Rovó, Rector of the University of Szeged, Professor Dr. Ildikó Csóka, Director General of Strategy, and Dr. Csaba Bereczki, the Director of the Paediatric Centre.
Meeting with Ignatius Aphrem II, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch
Dr. Tamás Sulyok welcomed His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch, to Sándor Palace.
During the discussion, the President of Hungary emphasized that supporting the Christian communities of the world is a key priority for Hungary, and through the Hungary Helps Programme, our country has been effectively supporting Christian and religious organisations in numerous areas.
Dr. Tamás Sulyok stated that he personally finds the communal practice of faith and supporting monastic life very important.
