Eighty years ago, German men, women, and families were expelled from Hungary almost overnight. In three waves, more than 200,000 souls were torn from their homes and from our common homeland. They were my compatriots. They were respected citizens of our country.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I greet you today at a place of profound sorrow. This land bears witness to unimaginable suffering. Here, the human dignity of my fellow citizens was utterly disregarded. With deep sorrow in my heart, I remember the thousands of Hungarian Jews, and all those fellow human beings, who fell victim to the inhuman Nazi dictatorship in this region. The lives that were destroyed cannot be forgotten, nor can they ever be replaced.

Announcement from Sándor Palace
Sándor Palace issues the following statement in connection with Government Decree 15/2026. (II. 3.) on municipal solidarity contributions due to the spread of misinformation regarding the constitutional role of the President of Hungary:
A statement widely circulated in the press claimed to offer a professional recommendation, arguing that “in the matter of the government decree, the President of Hungary, as guardian of the constitutional order, should have acted and referred the issue to the Constitutional Court”.

President of Hungary Dr. Tamás Sulyok will attend the opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Milan.

Statement from Sándor Palace
The President of Hungary hosted Chile's President-Elect, elected in December, at Sándor Palace.
During the meeting, Dr. Tamás Sulyok praised the 101 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He emphasised that despite the geographical distance between Hungary and Chile, the two countries are connected by fundamental values rooted in their shared Christian heritage, such as the protection of family and its central role in society.

The President of Hungary at the 130th Anniversary Gala of the Hungarian Olympic Committee
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, greeted the Olympic community celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Hungarian Olympic Committee at the Museum of Fine Arts.
In his speech, the Head of State stated: "For us Hungarians, sport is a real community-building force, as knowledge, enthusiasm and passion are passed on from generation to generation”.
According to the President, the founding of the Hungarian Olympic Committee 130 years ago created a national resource that has given and continues to give Hungarian sport a strong foundation and sense of confidence.

At the unveiling of the stele marking the declaration of the Szeged Cathedral and the square as a national memorial on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Kuno Klebelsberg, Dr. Tamás Sulyok stated that "The sky-high Cathedral and the huge square have grown dear to our hearts, the hearts of the people of Szeged." The square embodies sacredness, science and culture all at once. The height of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Hungary commands respect.
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, visited the Laser Research Centre in Szeged
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, Head of State, speaking at an event organised by the Research Students Movement, of which he is the patron, told young people visiting the ELI-ALPS Laser Research Centre in Szeged that "the Szeged Research Centre is the driving force behind the development of laser technology".
"The future is born here," emphasised Dr. Tamás Sulyok, adding that Hungary is proud that ELI-ALPS operates in our country and that scientists from many countries around the world come here to conduct their research projects.

Tamás Sulyok: deepening the dialogue between Hungary and Poland is a key priority
Maintaining and deepening the dialogue between Poland and Hungary is of the utmost importance, said President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok at a joint press conference with President Andrzej Duda in Stary Sacz, southern Poland, on Friday.
The Hungarian President arrived in Poland on a working visit to mark the Day of Polish-Hungarian Friendship (23 March).
Visit to the Ministry of Defence and the Hungarian Defence Forces
Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, as Commander-in-Chief of the Hungarian Defence Forces, visited the Ministry of Defence and the Hungarian Defence Forces. Following the military salute, Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and Chief of General Staff Gábor Böröndi reported to the President on the activities of the Ministry and the Defence Forces, the state of the development of the armed forces and the defence industry, as well as the country's defence capabilities.
Ministerial introductory visit to Sándor Palace

Appointment as State Secretary at Sándor Palace
Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, on a proposal by the Prime Minister, appointed Örs Farkas as State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office with effect from 14 March 2024.

The national flag was hoisted with a military salute on the 15 March national holiday in front of the Parliament in Budapest, at Kossuth Lajos Square.
The Honour Guard of the Hungarian Defence Forces raised the flag to the sound of the National Anthem, in the presence of Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, and László Kövér, Speaker of the National Assembly.
The event also featured the participation of the Central Military Band and the Cavalry Unit of Honour.

The President of Hungary set the date for the elections

Today, President Tamás Sulyok, in fulfilment of his constitutional duty, called the election of the members of the European Parliament in Hungary and the general election of local municipality representatives and mayors.
The first simultaneous elections will take place on 09 June 2024.

President Tamás Sulyok received Peter Pellegrini, Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia, the first foreign guest after his inauguration on Monday at the Sándor Palace. The Hungarian Head of State praised the excellent relations between the two countries, which, according to him, are based on a strategic partnership worthy of good neighbours.
The parties agreed on the importance of the V4, and both are interested and committed to a solid and successful Visegrad cooperation, the Sándor Palace informed MTI, the Hungarian News Agency, on Monday.
