My fellow countrymen! 
Celebrating Hungarians from the Carpathian Basin and around the world!

It is with joy and respect that  I welcome the service members who have just taken their oath, as well as their families. With joy, because young people ready and well-prepared to serve and defend their homeland once again fill the nation’s main square. With respect, because the oath they have taken—and which I hope they will keep throughout their lives—demands of them the noblest service and sacrifice.

With great respect and affection, I welcome the community gathered for the festive opening of the Hungarian Cultural Days of Kolozsvár! I would love to greet each person individually who participates in any of the events of this wonderful week-long programme, but unfortunately, this is not possible. Even this impressive venue is much, much too small to accommodate the thousands who will be seeking intellectual and cultural nourishment or refreshing experiences here.

Head of State nominates new ombudsman

Due to the election of Dr. Ákos Kozma as a constitutional judge, the position of Commissioner for Fundamental Rights became vacant. In accordance with his powers under the Fundamental Law, President Tamás Sulyok, after consulting with representatives of the legal profession, nominated Dr. Imre Juhász, former constitutional judge, retired president of the Constitutional Court, and lecturer at the Department of Civil Procedure Law at ELTE University, as the candidate for the position of Commissioner for Fundamental Rights.

President Tamás Sulyok travels to Slovakia on an official visit

On Thursday, 3 July 2025, President Tamás Sulyok will travel to Slovakia on an official visit.

The Hungarian head of state will be received in Pozsony by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. Following a private meeting between the two heads of state and talks between the delegations, the two presidents will make a press statement.

The Hungarian President will meet with Richard Raši, Speaker of the Slovak National Council, and then hold talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

President Tamás Sulyok pays a working visit to Japan, followed by an official visit to Vietnam.

On 19 May 2025, Head of State Tamás Sulyok will pay a working visit to Japan. The Hungarian Head of State will be received in audience by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, 126th Emperor of Japan. The President will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and hold talks with the heads of Japanese companies and investor groups present in Hungary.

The votes express the democratic will of the electorate

On 9 June 2024, on the day of the elections to the European Parliament, local governments and of national minority advocates, Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary and his wife cast their votes in Szeged. After the vote, the President said that since there have been free elections in Hungary, his wife Zsuzsa and he have always exercised their right to vote, and again urged his fellow citizens to vote as well.

Hungary does not give up its sovereignty, and believes in the alliance of independent nation states in Europe, which the founding treaties currently guarantee – the President of Hungary said in Brdo pri Kranj in Slovenia on Monday.

Tamás Sulyok emphasized the need for revitalizing our communities.

We need to rebuild ourselves to each other, setting aside all obstacles, fears, uncertainties, and distrust, although this is not easy in the era of infidelity, where we lose the grace of connection, stated the President.

My meetings in Békés were highly rewarding - Interview with Katalin Novák

I found my meetings in Békés very rewarding, and I trust that I was not the only one who felt this way - said Katalin Novák, President of Hungary, in an interview with our newspaper - the Békés Megyei Hírlap - about the three days she spent in our county at the end of January. During our conversation, we discussed how to motivate young people to settle in the region, spoke about the war in Ukraine and this year's elections, and why she declared 2024 the Year of Getting Active.

That I'm here for the first time, I experienced that it is, let's say, a constructive chaos, what we experience here, and also what the traffic is concerned, it's very difficult to get from one place to the other, but I have to assure you that the Swiss trains are on time. I took the train and it worked perfectly.

Speech by Katalin Novák in Melbourne on the occasion of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence

"We agree with the Members of the first free Parliament, who stated in their first resolution that our current liberty was born out of our 1956 revolution.

Former President of Hungary László Sólyom was laid to rest in the Fiumei Road Cemetery.
President Novák Katalin also attended the ceremony and paid her respects to the late Head of State.
 

Presentation of Ambassadorial Credentials at Sándor Palace

President Katalin Novák presented letters of credence to two Hungarian ambassadors accredited abroad. 
Based on the official documents, Hungary’s diplomatic missions will be led by

- dr. Krisztina Lakos in Nicosia, and 
- Anna Erzsébet Bálint in Tokyo.

The President wished the ambassadors much success in their responsible representation of Hungary and Hungarian interests. 
 

Confirmation of the President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts by the Head of State

President Katalin Novák confirmed Attila Turi in his position as the elected President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.

We celebrate with a pure heart, our chests swelling with pride, and we rejoice together, putting aside the horrors of the world around us for at least a few hours. Hungary is celebrating the world-renowned success of two outstanding Hungarian minds. We have been waiting for this moment for nearly two decades, and after almost thirty years we can once again welcome two Hungarians to the list of the most brilliant scientific giants of humanity.

Today holds significant importance also because Hungary has finally become a part of the Berlin Process, allowing us to present Hungary's stance at the highest level. Katalin Novák, attending for the first time the Berlin Process Summit in Tirana as Hungary's representative, emphasized that Hungary's position is clearly in favour of the EU's enlargement to include the Western Balkans.

Presidential visit to Fejér county with Sándor Palace in remote office

On the first day of her two-day visit to Fejér County, President Katalin Novák met with county leaders after the raising of the national flag in Fehérvárcsurgó. The President emphasized that when Sándor Palace operates in remote office, she carries out her duties as Head of State in the county which she is visiting. Fejér County is the sixth in line in the series of visits to the counties. My aim is to get to know the challenges, the problems and the pride of the people of the region in person, said the Head of State.

At the bilateral meeting, Klaus Johannis and Katalin Novák discussed, among other topics, the situation of national minorities, including the Hungarian minority in Transylvania. 

Statement by President Katalin Novák

May God rest the soul of László Sólyom, the late President of Hungary!

László Sólyom was an internationally renowned jurist who, first as a participant in the National Round Table and then as the first President of the Constitutional Court, played a defining role in the regime change and the establishment of constitutional frameworks that have continued to shape our democracy and lives to the present day.

I am grateful that he shared his experiences with me.

Peace must be established in Ukraine as soon as possible and an escalation of the war must be avoided, stressed President Katalin Novák at a press conference in Porto following the meeting of the Arraiolos Group.
Katalin Novák stated that the participants in the meeting agreed on the need to show unity and support for Ukraine. Hungary is providing political, financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
