Tamás Sulyok received the Chairman of the Mongolian State Great Hural

President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok received Gombojav Zandanshatar, Chairman of the Mongolian State Great Hural, at the Sándor Palace on Wednesday.

The Hungarian Head of State stressed that both countries are interested in peaceful coexistence and that our economic and political strategy should be based on connectivity instead of bloc-building. The parties discussed agricultural and trade relations between the two countries, as well as current educational, cultural and tourism issues. Hungary is following Mongolia's development with sympathy, and Hungarian businesses are ready to contribute to the success of Mongolia's reforms, especially in agriculture and water management, where they have internationally recognised knowledge and experience.

The friendship and mutually respectful relationship between Hungary and Mongolia are rooted deep in the past. Hungary continues to act as a bridge between Asia and Europe. In this context, among other things, they discussed the Stipendium Hungaricum agreement signed last year for 2024-2026, under which Hungary will offer 200 scholarship places to Mongolia every year, while Mongolia will provide scholarships for 10 Hungarian students. Our excellent educational and cultural relations are strengthened by the Mongolian language courses at ELTE and the Hungarian language training at the National University of Mongolia. Furthermore, it is gratifying that through town-twinning agreements, Hungarian and Mongolian municipalities can expand their relations directly.

Hungary established diplomatic relations with Mongolia in 1950. The Embassy of Mongolia in Budapest opened in 1957, whereas the Embassy of Hungary in Ulaanbaatar reopened in 2015. In addition to Hungary, six EU Member States (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Poland, Italy and Germany) have a permanent representation in Mongolia.
