The value-creating spirit of Hungarian science - 200 years of the Hungarian Academy of Science
Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, was among those addressing the 199th General Assembly of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences celebrating the 200th anniversary of its foundation.
In his speech in the renovated Grand Hall of the Main Building of the Academy, the Head of State pointed out that today's celebration and the jubilee year itself focuses on the value-creating spirit of Hungarian science and the achievements of Hungarian scientists. We celebrate a foundation that defines the identity of the Hungarian nation.
In his speech, the President of Hungary stressed that István Széchenyi's creative power and development efforts not only fired up the engines of scientific life with the establishment of the Academy, but also raised the esteem of knowledge even higher among Hungarians. We have every reason to have confidence in the glorious future of Hungarian science. May we trust that in every age, the scientific advancement of the nation will be upheld by the required dedication, responsibility, and essential unity.
Tamás Sulyok said that the academic community celebrating this event also bears a great responsibility in determining what Hungarian science will look like in the future, and what it will be like in another 200 years.
"On behalf of my fellow Hungarians, I wish you to bring as much cheer as possible into the lives of the Hungarian people, true to the Academy's motto, by dispersing gloom", the Head of State concluded his speech.
