Symposium of justice practitioners in Kaposvár

Legal professionals living in rural areas have a special responsibility for local communities, because the future of rural Hungarian communities and their successful remaining and prosperity in their home regions also depends on the lawyers and intellectuals living in these rural areas, emphasised President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok at the 31st Legal Conversations conference lasting for two days in Kaposvár.

In his speech, the Head of State emphasized that if legal professionals and intellectuals have a strong local footage, the survival and growth of the communities and the population of the region are better ensured.

"I think it is important to make people aware that in our daily life - which is centered around our capital city – Hungary’s 19 counties also enjoy a vibrant intellectual climate, legal professionals are present in all our cities, they form communities in every county, and lawyers in every region of the country work for the country, for legal certainty and for equality of rights", said Tamás Sulyok.

The revitalization of the life of rural legal professionals requires high-quality professional programs and the operation of platforms for dialogue,” the President added.

President Sulyok stressed that the Kaposvár Legal Conversations are an excellent example of this, a feedback that shows that the legal profession in the Somogy county seat is active, has a vision and expresses its wish to make the life of the city richer and more lively intellectually.

Tamás Sulyok also said that since he took office, he has had the opportunity to participate in a number of meaningful rural law programmes. He cited the 150th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the Bar Association as an example, which he called a highlight of the whole legal system, saying that "an independent and respected Bar is the key to a functioning justice system, which, by establishing equality of rights and equality before the law, performs a fundamental function of protecting fundamental rights".

"As I have done so far, I will continue to visit the dedicated bastions of rural legal professionals, the landmarks of the legal profession in different, even remote, parts of the country," said the Head of State, who stressed that his love for the countryside does not mean that he overlooks professional events in Budapest, but gladly attends legal forums in the capital as well.

"I strive to regularly exchange views with representatives of every division of the legal profession who wish to do something for our country and Hungarian citizens", the President said, adding that he believes in dialogue and its power.
