Day of Hungarian-Polish Friendship in Kaposvár
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, and his spouse Zsuzsanna Nagy received Polish President Andrzej Duda and his spouse Agatha Kornhauser-Duda in Kaposvár on the occasion of the Day of Hungarian-Polish Friendship.
The Heads of State and their spouses were welcomed by the host, Mayor Károly Szita, in front of the Town Hall, and after signing the town's guest book, the Presidents held a private meeting.
The delegations of the two nations, led by the Heads of State, discussed current issues in bilateral relations in a plenary session, and then summarized their thoughts in a press statement for the media. The two Heads of State took the opportunity of the celebratory meeting to reaffirm their shared commitment to Hungarian-Polish friendship.
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, stressed that the friendship between our peoples has strong historical foundations, and we have supported each other in times of need. He pointed to the need to ensure that recent differences of opinion do not call into question the friendship of our two peoples, and argued for continued political dialogue.
The President of Hungary said: 'For us, Hungarian-Polish friendship is not a myth, but a lived reality; it does not apply to individual episodes of our history, but permeates our lives.
The Heads of State and their spouses attended a gala ceremony at the Csiky Gergely Theatre, which began with a speech by the President of Hungary and an address by the Polish Head of State, followed by a musical and dance performance that magically combined the cultures of the two nations.
At the end of the programme, the Heads of State awarded prizes to the young and talented finalists of the national history competition "Poland - Hungary - A Story of Friendship" at the Klebelsberg Secondary School.
