The triumph of faith, fortitude and selflessness – A visit to the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service camp
The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service's traditional summer camp in Balatonfenyves has become a special place, a venue for mutual gift-giving, said President Tamás Sulyok at the opening of the charity's camp for young people with disabilities.
Tamás Sulyok said that the organisers and accompanying staff at the camp wanted to give the gift of joy and pleasant experiences to all those who would otherwise face obstacles to going on holiday, visiting the beach or camping without their families due to their disabilities.
According to the Head of State, the camp for people with disabilities is much more than a special event where people meet and open up to each other. By selflessly making joy and serving others their sole purpose, the organisers highlight the essence of our humanity: that which is within all of us and which actually moves our country and the world forward, builds it and makes it beautiful, said Tamás Sulyok.
The President of Hungary noted that cultures, peoples and languages may disappear, but human benevolence and good deeds are eternal, we are created with them, they are written within us, they just need to be released. And this camp demonstrates that we can do that, pointed out the head of state.
Tamás Sulyok expressed his gratitude to the organizers, who, in his words, show through their joint efforts how wonderful it is, as human beings, to look out for one another, and how much joy and strength can be shared through open-heartedness and care.
They show how much good will there is in us, the Hungarian people, and what a gift the spirit behind the Maltese red shield and eight-pointed cross is for all of us.
The President of Hungary visited the camp with his wife, First Lady Zsuzsanna Nagy, where they took part in the camp programmes for a short time.
