A life's work becomes a symbol - János Bánáti receives the new recognition established by the Head of State

Head of State Dr. Tamás Sulyok has established a new award, the Gold Medal of Merit of the President of Hungary. 

The President of Hungary wishes to reward the achievements of those who have increased the esteem of the Hungarian nation, who have achieved outstanding merits in the service of the homeland, who have helped the everyday life of the Hungarian people through their life's work, who have worked tirelessly to support our compatriots, to promote the unity of the nation and to achieve peace.

The first recipient of the Presidential Gold Medal of Merit was Dr János Bánáti, lawyer, President of the Budapest Bar Association and former President of the Hungarian Bar Association.

At the ceremony held at Sándor Palace, Tamás Sulyok stressed that the Gold Medal was awarded to János Bánáti for his historic activity for the Hungarian legal profession and for the quality of Hungarian justice. 

According to the Head of State, it is also thanks to János Bánáti's work that the legal community, which is the bastion of the rule of law and ensures the equality of the parties before the law, today enjoys a stable and full self-governance in the form of the Bar Association.
