Visit to the border: Debrecen – Fehérgyarmat

As Commander-in-Chief of the Hungarian Defence Forces, President Katalin Novák visited one of the most exposed border sections of the country, the north-east section bordering on Ukraine and the military units stationed there and participating in the Eastern Shield 2022 mission.

The President ascertained the readiness of the soldiers and the tangible results achieved in the development of the Hungarian armed forces. The majority of the soldiers in the units serve in Hungary's largest land unit, the 5th István Bocskai Rifle Brigade of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

On her visit to the border, Katalin Novák was accompanied by cadet Roland Péter Kiss, a student of the Károly Kratochvil Defence High School and Dormitory, from a military family with excellent academic results. The young soldier told Katalin Novák that he envisions his future as a fighter pilot.

During her visit, the President also had the opportunity to visit the Kossuth Barracks in Debrecen – a military base with a long history - where she said the following in front of the soldiers having lined up there:
„We, the country's leaders, are working to keep Hungary out of this war. We will do our utmost to keep the war outside our borders and preserve peace. Thank you for being here, thank you for giving the local residents and all Hungarians the sense of security that comes from seeing and knowing that we can count on you.”

After this, the President of the Republic paid a visit to Fehérgyarmat, to a company stationed at the Eastern Shield 2022 mission.
