Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, awarded the Silver Medal of Merit to Mónika Liliána Mátyás
The President emphasised that he was expressing his gratitude on behalf of the entire Hungarian nation to Mónika Lilián Mátyás, who, having returned to Csángó Land after completing her studies, teaches and passes on the heritage of the Hungarian language and culture amongst the Csángós of the Region of Romanian Moldavia.
What comes naturally to those in the motherland – such as speaking Hungarian as a mother tongue – is something the Csángós of the Region of Romanian Moldavia struggle with every day, the President pointed out.
The devotion and deep love Ms. Mátyás has for her birthplace prompted me to award her the Silver Medal of Merit of the President of Hungary in recognition of her dedicated work in preserving the Hungarian language and culture,” the Head of State emphasised at the ceremony held at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Csobotfalva.
