The love of sport is a fundamental value in Hungary – World Judo Championships 2025

President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok, in his welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the World Judo Championships in Budapest, said that the World Judo Championships have come home to Budapest.

"Sport is a matter close to the hearts of the Hungarian people, and in recent years Hungary has hosted numerous World Championships in various sports, and has proven many times that it is a reliable partner, because the love of sport and respect for our guests are fundamental values in Hungary," the President said.

"Judo is particularly close to our hearts, and we are proud that Budapest can be home to the headquarters of the international federation," said the Head of State, adding that it is a great success that we are hosting the World Championships for the third time.

Tamás Sulyok, quoting the words of the Hungarian Olympic judo champion Antal Kovács, said that in this sport, in addition to strength, there is playfulness and cunning, as well as stamina, skill, discipline and concentration, and respect for the other person.

"It is no wonder that this sport, which originated in Japan, has conquered the world", concluded the President of Hungary.
