The Head of State set the date for the 2026 General Election of Members of Parliament
Free elections are the cornerstone of representative democracy. Parliamentary elections are a key expression of popular sovereignty, during which all Hungarian citizens with the right to vote can shape the future of Hungary through their free and responsible choices.
In accordance with his constitutional powers, President Tamás Sulyok signed a decree today setting the date for the 2026 General Election of Members of Parliament.
In keeping with previous public law traditions, the Hungarian elections will be held on 12 April 2026, the earliest date permitted by the Fundamental Law and the Law on Electoral Procedures.
The Head of State encourages Hungarian citizens to exercise their legal right to vote.
