The Head of State received the leaders of the parties entering parliament
Following the general election for Members of the National Assembly, one of the Head of State’s key constitutional duties is to convene the Inaugural Session of the new National Assembly. To this end, Dr. Tamás Sulyok initiated immediate dialogue with the leaders of the parties entering parliament.
President Sulyok first received Péter Magyar, the leader of the Respect and Freedom Party, which won the most parliamentary seats, at Sándor Palace. The President of Hungary and Péter Magyar agreed that, once the election results have become final and legally binding, the Inaugural Session of the National Assembly should be convened for the earliest possible date.
Given the clear election result, Dr. Tamás Sulyok also announced that he would officially propose the President of the Respect and Freedom Party for the post of Prime Minister at the inaugural session of parliament.
During consultations with the leaders of the parties entering parliament, the Head of State discussed the first tasks following the elections and the organisation of the Inaugural Session of the National Assembly with the leaders of Fidesz-KDNP and the President of Mi Hazank, the Our Homeland Party.
The President stated that he is convinced that constructive cooperation between constitutional actors is what serves the interests of Hungary and Hungarian citizens.
