Dr. Tamás Sulyok at the 25th Winter Olympic Games

President Dr. Tamás Sulyok attended the opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Milan. The Head of State visited the Olympic Village in Milan, where he met with the Hungarian team members and their support staff, and later watched the first event of interest to Hungary (men's 10+10 km skiathlon) in Tesero.

On the sidelines of the Olympics, the Head of State also held talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, with whom he discussed current political issues of mutual interest. During the talks, they mutually committed to the need to continue their constructive dialogue as soon as possible.

The President of Hungary laid a wreath at the 1956 memorial on Viale Ungheria in Milan. The road has borne the name of our country since 1960 in recognition of the courage and heroism shown by the Hungarian people during the 1956 Revolution. One of the most famous book and picture libraries in the Lombard metropolis is the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, which includes priceless codices and paintings, as well as several works of art with Hungarian connections. In the garden of the building, visitors can admire a statue of Sándor Petőfi, and in one of the rooms formerly used as a sacristy, a painting depicting King Saint Stephen.

The Head of State also visited Milan Cathedral, where a statue of King Saint Stephen can be found among the thousands of statues decorating the exterior walls.

Inside the cathedral, there is also a statue by the contemporary Hungarian sculptor Éva Oláh Arre, depicting a former, beatified Archbishop of Milan.
