Being a lawyer is a special profession - Tolna County Lawyers' Day in Szekszárd

Tolna County Lawyers' Day is one of the most prestigious and important events in the legal profession in the county, which was opened this year by President Dr. Tamás Sulyok.

In his speech, the Head of State emphasised that being a lawyer is a special profession; it is a way of life where serious responsibility is an everyday occurrence and where commitment forms a solid alliance with integrity.

Dr. Tamás Sulyok drew attention to the fact that "our hopes can find protection in the law" and that those who "speak with the voice of the law give voice to the deepest layers of the community's sense of justice."

In keeping with the spirit of Szekszárd, the President of Hungary borrowed an image from the world of grapes and wine to compare the work of a lawyer to wine tasting, saying that when tasting wine, people taste the same beverage, yet they each highlight different characteristics. And each of them is right, because "justice is not a single voice, but a whole chord, a harmony that reveals itself in diversity," he said.

According to him, it is precisely these different perspectives that paint the complete picture, and this is the strength of the legal profession: "a unity that encompasses diversity and illuminates the path of the rule of law".

The Head of State also said that the work of a lawyer can be compared to that of a winegrower, because just as good wine requires time, care and patience, so too does every considered thought in a legal decision shape the future of the community. He emphasised that "in all cases, perfection can be brought closer through a sense of duty and diligence".

Speaking about Tolna County Lawyers' Day, Tamás Sulyok said that one of the most important values of the event is the free exchange of ideas, constructive dialogue and the power of the underlying knowledge that must prevail in the legal profession. This means that "the letter of the law serves a moral and economic purpose in accordance with common sense and the common good," he said, referring to the Fundamental Law.

According to the Head of State, it is the duty of lawyers to safeguard the stability of the legal system, the security of citizens and to place the future of the nation on a strong foundation. This is because the legal community is the supportive pillar of the nation, the guardian of security, dignity and hope for the future, whose compass is common sense, public law and morality - the President of Hungary pointed out.

Dr. Tamás Sulyok wished the participants of the event memorable moments and uplifting experiences worthy of the spirit of Szekszárd.

The aim of Tolna County Lawyers' Day is to provide an opportunity each year for professionals working in the application of the law, the judiciary and legal science to meet, exchange ideas and strengthen cooperation between professional associations.
