15 March

The national flag was hoisted with a military salute on the 15 March national holiday in front of the Parliament in Budapest, at Kossuth Lajos Square.

The Honour Guard of the Hungarian Defence Forces raised the flag to the sound of the National Anthem, in the presence of Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, and László Kövér, Speaker of the National Assembly.

The event also featured the participation of the Central Military Band and the Cavalry Unit of Honour.

Several members of the government, representatives of state and the armed forces and the diplomatic corps attended the celebration.

The commemoration continued in the Museum Garden, where the Head of State was also present.

15 March is the day of the birth of modern parliamentary Hungary, the beginning of the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence. Since 1990, it has been an official national holiday.
